Paeonia peregrina x tenuifolia 'Coral Fay' -  Herbaceous Peony

'Coral Fay' is a gorgeous herbaceous peony with lightly fragrant, radiant, coral-pink semi-double blooms that are sure to delight. These blooms appear early in the season, rising above lush fern-like foliage on strong stems up to 75 cm high.

The garden is where 'Coral Fay' truly shines, but it can also be added to floral arrangements. The coloration leans more towards red tones than 'Coral Charm.'

This lovely variety was bred by Orville Fay of Northwood, Illinois, USA. David Reath officially registered it on the 30th of June, 1973. 'Coral Fay' is a hybrid F2 cross (Laddie* x self), and its fern-like foliage shows the ancestral influence of Paeonia tenuifolia. Orville Fay bred a few varieties that are well-known today. These include 'Blaze', 'Paula Fay', 'Prairie Moon', and 'Fayette', in addition to 'Coral Fay'.

About the Breeder

During his life Orville Fay (1896-1980) became one of the most highly awarded Hemerocallis (daylily) and Iris breeders. He earned recognition in the US and internationally for his beautiful cultivars, and for his advancement of breeding efforts in the genera Hemerocallis and Iris. He also bred peonies and daffodils, many of which (such as 'Coral Fay') are still in cultivation today.
