Additional Information

Euonymus alatus   –   Burning Bush

A deciduous shrub renowned for its dramatic autumn transformation, with foliage shifting from mid-green to vivid crimson-red and scarlet hues best intensified in full sun. The stems develop distinctive papery winged ridges that add textural interest even after leaf fall, remaining ornamental throughout winter. Inconspicuous greenish flowers give way to purplish-red berries containing orange-red seeds that provide additional late-season colour.

A robust, slow-growing shrub tolerating a wide range of soil conditions, it is particularly effective as a specimen shrub, in mixed borders, or as informal hedging. Autumn colour intensity diminishes in shaded positions, so full sun is recommended to achieve the most dramatic seasonal display. The corky winged stems provide reliable winter structure, and the plant requires minimal pruning.

A four-season ornamental delivering reliable summer foliage, brilliant autumn colour, and decorative winter stems.
