Paeonia 'Estrellia' – Herbaceous Peony
'Estrellia's flowers are deep velvet red and have a richer, darker character than the brighter scarlets and pinks that dominate much of the early peony season. Colour darkens as the bloom ages.
What makes it especially interesting is it has a notably extended display for a herbaceous peony of up to four weeks. 'Estrellia' has tall stems, good growth, and lighter, more pointed foliage than is usual for a lactiflora, giving the plant a slightly different look even before it flowers.
A rare modern cultivar and a promising cut-flower peony where an early, dark red double is wanted.
Bred by Thierry Rat of France. First bloomed in 1992. Named for his daughter.
