Herbaceous Peony 'Moon Over Barrington'

Paeonia lactiflora 'Moon Over Barrington' – Herbaceous Peony

Fully double blooms of exceptional size, around 20 cm across, in creamy white with a delicate blush that lifts them clear of plain white. They are fragrant, and plentiful side buds open behind the crown flower to stretch the display well past the usual fortnight. Mid to late season.

Strong stems to about 80 cm carry the weight, over lush foliage that stays presentable into autumn; allow 75–90 cm of width for an established clump. Full sun to part shade, with five or six hours of direct sun the minimum and the late-afternoon sun screened in hot inland gardens. Free-draining soil and a cold winter bring out the best of it.

Bred by Roy G. Klehm of Illinois. It first flowered in 1968 and was registered in 1986. Exhibition growers rate it for size and form, and it is a first-rate cut flower.
