Herbaceous Peony 'Pink Vanguard'
The lovely simple soft pink blooms of this peony ‘Pink Vanguard’ will sure to please
any gardener or cut flower grower. The tall stems of this variety grow to 95cm tall
and have a large central soft pink bud with many side buds that open to reveal a loose
open milky pink bloom with multiple layers of petals that lighten with age and as the
side buds open they extend the bloom season.
This variety is best to be established for about 3 years before it shines in the garden
and really performs as earlier blooms produced in the first few years although
beautiful can have fewer petals.
Blooms open to about 20cm early and midseason excellent as a seed or pod parent for
hybridizing and was bred by William Seidl and Don Hollingsworth using a Saunders
peony variety as the pod parent and released in 2005 the same breeder William Seidl
of Sparrow Song nursery in Manitowoc, Wisconsin developed the famed
‘Pastelegance’ variety.
