Paeonia lactiflora 'White Cap'

A striking Japanese style single bloom of deep red-pink guard petals surround the 
contrasting centre filled with cream and light pink petaloides, blooms are fragrant and 
very floriferous with lots of side buds on stems to 95cm tall. 
This early to mid season herbaceous variety was bred by a little known peony breeder named George E. Winchel from Oskaloosa, Iowa. He registered eight varieties from 1941 
with the variety ‘White Cap’ his last creation registered in 1956, which won the American Peony Societies Gold Medal in 1991.
