Itoh Peony 'Morning Lilac'

A standout intersectional (Itoh) peony with large, semi-double blooms in lilac to fuchsia-pink, each petal streaked with dark purple and white for a striking, painterly effect. A darker centre and yellow stamens finish the display. The flowers are fragrant and appear in mid-season over a long flowering period, held on strong, upright stems to around 70cm that rarely need staking.

Bred by American hybridiser Roger Anderson, 'Morning Lilac' is a cross between a 'Martha Washington' seedling and the tree peony hybrid 'Golden Era', registered in 1999. Like all Itoh peonies, it combines the best of both parents: the strong habit and handsome divided foliage of a tree peony with the reliability of a herbaceous one. The dark green leaves take on bronze and red tones in spring and autumn. It holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, a mark of consistent quality under garden conditions. A beautiful and hard-working peony for the garden or the vase.
