Paeonia 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' – Itoh Peony
'Yankee Doodle Dandy' is an intersectional peony with substantial semi-double to double flowers in deep pink, layered with cream undertones and darker flares through the centre. The blooms have the fuller, tree-peony-like presence associated with many Itoh cultivars, and they are carried on sturdy herbaceous stems above strong deep green foliage.
It is one of the more robustly built Itoh peonies, with excellent stem strength. Very floriferous, thanks to the 1-2 lateral buds per stem that extend the blooming period by about 2 weeks. In full sun and fertile, well-drained ground it forms a substantial clump suited to mixed perennial borders where stronger pink tones are wanted.
Bred by Donald Robert Smith of Massachusetts, USA. Registered in 2002.
