Malus transitoria 'JFS-KW5' Royal Raindrops™   –   Crab Apple

Malus Royal Raindrops™ is valued for its finely textured deep purple foliage and tiny showy red crab apples. It has strong branch structure, great form, excellent seasonal qualities, and is disease resistant. All these qualities result in a true winner that is a wonderful option for any garden.

Produces a bright magenta-pink bloom display in spring, with masses of flowers covering the tree. Post flowering, small shiny red crab apples appear from late summer through to autumn, providing further ornamental interest.

The deep purple cutleaf foliage is finely textured. The leaves can maintain their rich colour through the heat of summer. Autumn colour ranges from bronzy-red into tones of orange.

Habit is upright, pyramidal, and spreading. Strong branch angles couple with this growth habit to create a balanced canopy with minimal need for pruning and shaping.

This hardy tree has a moderate growth rate and is very easy to grow. Flowering and colouration are best in full sun, but Royal Raindrops™ is also quite happy with part sun.

Bark is greyish-brown, becoming scaly with age.
