Nerine bowdenii – Bowden Lily or Cape Flower
A South African herbaceous bulb producing striking flower heads of brilliant pink, wavy-edged trumpet flowers in autumn. Each head contains up to twelve blooms with recurved petals and a delicate fragrance. The strap-shaped green leaves appear in late winter and spring before the plant enters dormancy in summer; flowers then emerge on tall, sturdy stems from March through May.
Highly adaptable, Nerine bowdenii thrives in full sun while tolerating partial shade in most climates. It requires well-drained soil and suits borders, container growing, and cutting. Reliable autumn flowering and low maintenance once established make it an excellent choice for temperate and warm gardens seeking late-season colour.
