Prunus salicina 'Satsuma' – Blood Plum
Plum 'Satsuma' produces heavy crops of small-medium round fruit that can be used fresh or for preserves, jams and juices. These juicy blood plums have dark red skin and flesh, and a beautiful sweet, rich flavour with a bit of tang. Fruit is also freestone, making the pit super easy to remove.
A mid-season variety, with fruit maturing in early February.
This tree has an upright growth habit.
Requires pollination to bear fruit, and 'Mariposa', 'Ruby Blood' and 'Flavour Supreme' are all suitable pollination partners. Other suggested pollinators are Narrabeen and Santa Rosa.
Tree Care
Plant in a sunny position with well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established. Fertilise when planting and again after new growth appears. Prune tree when planting to encourage new growth.
