Salvia 'Meigan's Magic'
'Meigan's Magic' is an Australian hybrid sage distinguished by its striking bicoloured flower display combining pure white corollas with intense dark violet calyces, creating dramatic colour contrast throughout the flowering period. The plant produces prominent 30 cm-long flower spikes continuously from mid-spring through to late autumn, establishing it as an outstanding extended-season performer.
The soft, grey-green, densely felted aromatic foliage is pleasantly scented when brushed, providing textural interest and seasonal fragrance. This perennial thrives in well-drained soil in full sun to part shade, displaying strong tolerance to moderate frosts and extended dry periods once established. It stands out among leucantha-based cultivars for its more compact flower spikes and exceptionally rich calyx pigmentation.
Meigan's Magic is a naturally occurring hybrid salvia, serendipitously discovered in 2005 in the South Australian garden of Robyn and Ian Powell at Mylor. This charming variety was named in honour of their granddaughter, Meigan, and is believed to have Salvia leucantha as one parent. The other remains a delightful mystery.
