(Auscartoon) Tottering-by-Gently is an elegantly simple rose, bred by David Austin. It produces medium sized soft lemon-yellow flowers that lighten as they age. These make a spectacular display when viewed en masse.
Repeat flowers from summer into autumn, producing large, open sprays of blooms. The single yellow flowers open to reveal golden stamens and have a light musk fragrance with some citrus notes. These blooms are fantastic for bees and finish in a great display of rose hips.
This medium sized shrub has a rounded, well-branched habit, and grows to 1.25 m tall and wide. Foliage is glossy and medium green.
Tottering-by-Gently is great for rose hedges and mixed borders in full sun or part shade. It complements blue and purple colours very well, and is perfect for adding brightness and interest to any garden.
The name was chosen by David Austin Roses in honour of the 25th anniversary of Annie Tempest's beloved cartoon Tottering-by-Gently. The cartoon appears weekly in the UK magazine
Country Life.
